Still learning, but a good machine
By Northern Virginia Cook from McLean, VA on 10/17/2009
Pros:
Attractive Design, Cleans Well, Easy To Load, Energy Efficient, Quiet, Simple Controls, Uses much less detergent
Cons:
Rinse aid a must
Best Uses:
General Purpose
Describe Yourself:
Avid Cook
How long have you owned it:
A month or less
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

We purchased this over a Bosch because it offers a drying cycle (we couldn't imagine buying a dishwasher that required dishes to be dried!) and has a larger capacity more appropriate to our family-sized house. It cleans well with 1/2 to 1/3 the amount of soap (more on that below.) The quietest washer currently on the market, you can barely hear it operating even when standing next to it. Since this model does not have a grinder, we worried about having to clean the filter, but as we rinse dishes well before they go in, so far there has been nothing at all in the filter. There's plenty of space for silverware and even very tall items fit into the front utensil compartment. The 3rd rack turns out to be much less useful than I'd thought; choosing again, I wouldn't bother. Power scrub feature, used once, seems okay but no replacement for a good scrub with steel wool. As with all energy-saving machines, it has a much longer normal cycle, but this does not turn out to be an issue as we run it overnight. You MUST use a rinse aid--otherwise, plastic dishes are still wet even with the drying cycle. Two problems came up right away: the soap dish didn't fully empty and two glasses broke during two different washes. RE: the soap, the cause turned out to be a noise-reducing piece clipped below the top rack that was interfering with the soap dish opening and needed to be moved back couple of rungs. A really silly design flaw, but easy to fix. We just kept running loads without adding more until the residual soap cleared the soap dish, door and bottom of the machine where it spilled; the dishes in each wash seemed perfectly clean despite using much less soap. The repair guy told us that you should only half-fill the soap container with powdered detergent, and use even less of the liquid type. Using too much soap leads to a whitish buildup on the machine's stainless steel interior (most likely true of all stainless steel machines.) Regarding the broken glasses, this apparently is due in part to the much higher temperature of the water in the newer models. The repair guy recommended hand-washing glassware that is very old or that you worry about. Still, crystal wine glasses did alright when placed in the stabilizing racks, and even the thinner glasses survived later washes after I used the plastic clips to keep them in place. On balance, we are still getting used to the new machine, but it is incredibly quiet, cleans very well and accommodates a lot of dishes. And the "green" features are gratifying: we're using less water, less energy and less detergent despite doing lots of dishes.

Awesome Dishwasher
By rosiw from austin, tx on 8/12/2009
Pros:
Cleans GREAT, Easy to install yourself, Very quiet
Cons:
No wire nuts provided
Best Uses:
Family of 4
How long have you owned it:
A month or less
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

The dishwasher that we replaced was a Bosch and I will never buy one of those again. The KUDE70FVSS dishwasher leaves Bosch in the dust. Very easy to use and is so quiet that you have to stand by it to see if it is really running.

I like the KUDE70FVSS over the KUDE70CVSS as the controls are on top of the door and hidden versus on the door panel. I would guess that the CV model will perform as well as the FV model.

I installed this myself and it was very straight forward and easy. The only real complaint, which is so minor, is that it would have been nice to have a couple of wire nuts provided or to have a terminal strip to make wiring easier. There was plenty of drain hose provided and clamps.

We're surprisingly pleased.

Pros:
Cleans Well, Really quiet, We like unheated dry
Cons:
Lower rack not great, You have to buy an insert
How long have you owned it:
More than six months
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

We run this machine every day (we have this model but one step up in price with hidden controls). We would have bought a Miele, our previous favorite from another residence, but we needed a side panel because this is at the end of a counter that is not closed in and we didn't want to hire a carpenter. Miele doesn't offer that side-panel part but Kitchenaid does. We did not expect to like this one as much as Miele. But other than absence of top silverware rack, which is relatively minor, we do. (We don't understand comment about not enough silverware space. There's plenty.) If this turns out to be as reliable -- which is a big if -- this is a very food product for the money (we got it approx. 20% off list price). We have recommended this model to friends being fairly confident they will like it.
