Clothes dryers are pretty uncomplicated machines. Most of the clothes dryers that Consumer Reports tests get the drying job done, but with some differences. And some machines are more reliable than others. The major differences in clothes dryers are how they heat the air (gas or electricity) and how they're programmed to shut off once the load is dry (thermostat or moisture sensor). Our tests of clothes dryers show that moisture-sensors are easier on fabrics. Don't pay for extra settings that you probably won't use.
